The team behind Afren
A team spanning product, engineering, growth and experience, obsessed with closing the gap between an idea and a real product.
Afren was founded by Basit Raheem. It began in January 2024 as Afren Incorporated, a platform connecting businesses with freelance tech talent in Africa.
After speaking with more than 70 founders, the team found that the real bottleneck was not finding talent but turning an idea into a product. So they closed the marketplace and rebuilt Afren as an AI operating system that scopes, designs and builds software, with vetted people on hand when a project needs them.

How is talent vetted?
Talent verify their identity and CV through AI-assisted checks and take an AI-led pre-interview about their experience. AI scores support decisions rather than make them, and anyone can request a human review of their score.
How are payments to talent protected?
The client pays the contract amount plus a 5% platform fee into escrow before work starts. Money is released to the talent only as each milestone is approved, and either side can raise a dispute for the Afren team to review.
Can I put my app online?
Yes. Publish puts your app live at its own address on demo.afren.ai in one click, and publishing again updates the same address. To run it in your own cloud with your own backend and data, deploy it to your AWS account.
